Queen of Country Music nominee

Trainee Kierra McFarlane has been nominated by NENWGT in Tamworth’s Queen of Country Music for 2011.

Even though the Country Music Festival doesn’t officially get underway until the 3rd week of January, the 19 year old Tamworth local will begin her duties as early as this month.

Tasks include training and information nights followed by a gala event where they are formally announced and presented to Tamworth’s Chamber of Commerce during its annual Christmas party.

Action heats up in January when the nominees will attend a non-stop program of functions ranging from breakfast concerts to evening events and awards nights across the two weeks of the festival.

Throughout that period they are judged on their participation, personality, local knowledge, public speaking and facts about the Country Music industry – all the while wearing their jeans, sash & cowboy hat!

A variety of prizes await both the officially crowned Queen and Princess including a trip to Gore in New Zealand - Tamworth’s sister city which also holds an annual Country Music Festival.

“This is a wonderful opportunity for Kierra to develop and grow as a person. By supporting her, it’s also a great way to promote our business in a different light. Being one of the biggest country musters, it’s certainly one not to be missed,” NENWGT Regional Manager Graham Grant said.

Tamworth’s Country Music Festival firmly places the city on the world stage with the event attracting up to 50,000 visitors and significantly boosting the local economy.

Good luck Kierra!
